Google's Announcement Makes Mobile Friendly Websites a Business Imperative
April 17, 2015, Bridgeport CT - GoECart, the leading provider of complete omni-channel commerce software for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), has made many of its customer’s websites mobile-friendly well in advance of Google’s imminent shake-up of search rankings. Google announced that starting April 21, 2015, mobile-friendly websites would get more favorable search rankings.
"This certainly didn't take us by surprise at GoECart. We were already supporting cutting-edge mobile commerce functionality that allows our customers to take advantage of the rise in usage of mobile devices as they relate to shopping," says Manish Chowdhary, GoECart CEO. "It was already a smart business move to make your retail website mobile-friendly; now, with the Google algorithm change, it's a business necessity."
In a company release, Google said: "Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices." Google says the change "will significantly impact search results on mobile devices."
Google will now assess the mobile compatibility of a website on a page-by-page basis to determine where each should be placed on its SERP (search engine results page). If a web page does not provide an optimal viewing experience on a smartphone, then that page will not see prominent placement in mobile search results, regardless of keywords.
One prime example of a GoECart customer who was ahead of the curve on this algorithm change is Wholesale Accessory Market. From your Smartphone web browser go to Wholesale Accessory Market (ewam.com) and browse their site to get a glimpse of GoECart 360 in action on a mobile-friendly website.
He continues: "GoECart was instrumental in the rapid implementation of our m-commerce site. Best of all, because mobile is offered as a native functionality of the GoECart suite, we don't have any content management, SEO or administrative burden whatsoever. Our mobile site offers the full range of functionality that we support on desktops and tablets and hence there are no silos or compromise, which our customers love. If you haven't converted to mobile, quite frankly, you're leaving money on the table. Now is the time to make the move."
Another GoECart customer, 11thStreetCoffee.com, went live with a mobile-friendly website recently and saw immediate positive results: Mobile sessions are up 40% and mobile revenues up in double digits, almost instantly.
"Best-in-class UX, optimized for speed, quick navigation and task completion combined with advanced functionality such as mobile optimized site search, social login and fast page loads have contributed to high performing mobile sites for GoECart customers" says Chowdhary.
